WEEK 8 REPORT W/E 11TH NOVEMBER

DIVISION 1
As expected Kingfisher A easily beat their own B team 23-1. In fact it wasn’t until the penultimate set that the B won a game through Lynne Williams and Tim Chetwood. Adrian Greenwood conceded the fewest points.

As expected top versus bottom ended with the predictable scoreline of Hesketh Fleetwood A 24 Stanley 0. Cath Bagley had the best scores on the night.

DIVISION 2
A great performance from Kirkham Charter B gave them an unexpected win against Lids. After winning 3 ladies and 4 mens, Kirkham had a slender 7-5 lead after the levels. In the first half of the mixed both teams won a set whilst the other set was halved. The match was still in the balance at 10-8 but in the final part of the match Kirkham managed to win all 3 sets for a final 16-8 victory. Despite the score this was a very close match with no less than 6 settings, 5 of which went Kirkham’s way ! The final setting was a 29-27 marathon won by Kirkham’s Emma Nickson and Harvey Slater. The best player on the night was Dave Mackay who won 7 for the winners. Pauline Weafer and Mark Green won 2 levels and 2 mixed for Lids.

Another Hesketh Fleetwood v Stanley fixture which ended with a similar result, 20-4 to HF. HF won 11 levels and 9 mixed which maintains their 100% record. Mike Percy won all his 8 games. Maggie Cheung and Aaron Cheung managed to win 3 mixed together.

Stanley B won the very first ladies game on setting through Sarah Rayner and Kelly Barker, but then Lightning B romped through the rest of the match to win the next 23 games! Darren Bagley rolled back the years to win all 8 games whilst also conceding the fewest points. Despite last weeks defeat, Lightning B find themselves top of the division.

LEVELS
A rare draw for the levels league happened when Lightning B hosted Lids B. The home team looked to be coasting at 7-3 but wins for Lids in sets 7 and 8 brought the score to 7 all. In the final set, Lids took the first game to lead 8-7. In the second game Lightning’s Jon Jackson and John Wright managed to win a close game by 25-23 to secure the draw. Jon won 6 and Tony Hayward won 5 for Lids.

Bloomfield A beat Kirkham Charter 16-0 for whom Richard Pascucci conceded fewest points.

A good away win for the league leaders Lightning A 12-4 against Lids A. At the halfway point Lightning led 8-0 and on their way to another victory but Lids fought hard to the end and in the second half managed to win 4 games. Jason Lydon and Dave Whiteside won 3 games for Lids but Nathan Bunting and Andy Heaton were the match’s top scorers with 7 games.

Hesketh Fleetwood B beat Bloomfield B relatively easily despite 2 setting games. HF led 9-1 before a spirited revival helped Bloomfield win 3 of the next 4. Ant Cross won his 8 games and Phil Hough won 3 of his teams 4 games.
