DIVISION I
After some terrific level games, Hesketh Fleetwood A emerged with a match winning lead of 9-3 in their tussle with Kingfisher A and seemingly on their way to another win. However, the mixed was a different story as Kingfisher won the first 2 sets to reduce the deficit to 9-7. In the next set, HF managed to increase their lead to 11-7 as they took both games. In the final quarter of the match, Kingfisher won the 10th set, but in the final 2 sets, HF won 3 games for a hard fought 14-10 win. Elizabeth Andrew was POTM for winning 6 games for HF. Kingfisher’s Adrian Greenwood also had a great match as he won 5 games including all 4 mixed with doubles partner Alex Mackie.
Unbeaten Lightning A piled up the games in a convincing 22-2 win at Hesketh Fleetwood B. After winning all the levels, Lightning also won the first 3 sets of the mixed to lead 18-0. Only a win in set 10 for HF prevented a bagel. Oliver Hives conceded the fewest points in a win that puts Lightning into second. Nicky Percy and Ben Yau won the only 2 games for HF.
DIVISION 2
There was a big win for Kirkham Charter A over struggling Stanley C. 11 level games plus 9 mixed was enough to ensure an easy victory. Early days but Kirkham end the week in pole position. Usual suspects Amelia Parker and Ian Cartmell won all their games with Stanley’s Maggie Cheung putting in a brave performance for her 3 games.
A great win for Lids over Lightning B helped mainly by their ladies who won all 6 games.
The mens ended 3 all to give Lids a commanding lead of 9-3 after the levels. 2 split mixed sets were followed by another set win for Lids to give them the win. At 13-5 down Lightning’s only hope was to get the 8 games required for a bonus point. They managed this with a set win and a split. Final score was 16-8. The 3 points move Lids into second place. POTM was Pauline Weafer who won all 8 games. Nathan Bunting won 5 for Lightning.
After starting the season with 3 defeats Project 12, helped by having their full team now available, won their third consecutive match which has seen them move from bottom spot to the top half of the table. Their win over Stanley B saw some highly competitive levels games which included a 26-24 mens for Project and a 22-20 win for Stanley’s ladies. Project won 4 ladies and 4 mens to take into the mixed. Project’s strength lies in the mixed which showed again as they won 10 games out of 12. Andy Whyatt managed 3 wins for Stanley but Jon Jackson and John Wright won all 8 for Project.
LEVELS
Division leaders Lightning A had only dropped 1 game in their previous 5 matches but beating Hesketh Fleetwood B 11-5 probably gave them even more satisfaction. The match would have been closer still had it not been for 2 wins on settings for Lightning. A good start was the secret to their success as they led 5-1 and then by 9-3. HF won the penultimate set to give themselves a bonus point whilst Lightning wrapped up the match with a final set win. Nathan Bunting was the hero for Lightning as he dropped only 1 game. Ant Cross and Derek Hill won 4 each for HF. Lightning now dropped 6 games in the season.
Teams at both ends of the table met as Hesketh Fleetwood A expectedly won 16-0 against Bloomfield B. Minoj Manandhar and Ant Cross had the best performances on the night. HF,with a match in hand, are still in second but improve their game total as they have now conceded only 5 games all season!
