DIVISION 1
First match for both Kingfisher B and Lightning A which resulted in a 21-3 away win.
Despite losing the very first game Lightning only dropped a couple of more games although there were several games that were close including 2 settings both won by Lightning. Tim Chetwood and Sam Gregory won a couple of games but Jenny Stothard, Oliver Hives and Rob Oakes won all theirs for Lightning.
Last season’s Division 2 champions and runners up met on Wednesday with Hesketh Fleetwood B beating Stanley A by 18-6. The match was closer than it appeared as most of the games were very close. Sheena Carberry and Ben Yau were the best players in the match winning 7 games each whilst Kathy Howard and Steve Canavan won a creditable 4 games despite being on the losing side.
DIVISION 2
Lids came away with all 3 points in a satisfying 20-4 win over Stanley C. They were in control after winning 11 levels games. Stanley fought hard in the mixed and managed to split 3 sets. Greg Littler was the nights best player as he won all his games. Angela Longstaff and Andy Whyatt split 2 mixed and Maggie Cheung split a ladies and a mixed for Stanley.
Hesketh Fleetwood C beat Stanley B 17-7 mainly thanks to their men who won 6. Having won 3 ladies, Stanley’s task was to try and win 5 mixed to earn a bonus point. However they just fell short as HF maintained their advantage to deny Stanley the 8 games. Derek Hill was POTM for winning all his games. Stanley’s Clare Doherty played well throughout the match, winning 3 ladies and 3 mixed.
Lightning B won their second successive match 21-3 to become the early front runners in the division. Despite some close games, particularly in the ladies, Kirkham Charter A found themselves 12-0 down. Kirkham’s only success came in the mixed where Amelia Parker and Ian Cartmell managed to win 3 games, 2 of them on setting. Lisa Dove and Nathan Bunting won all 8 games for Lightning.
LEVELS
In the match Kirkham v Lids B, the opening 2 sets went to each side before Lids won 3 sets in a row for a 8-2 lead. Although Kirkham won 2 of the final 3 sets it wasn’t enough to prevent Lids winning their first points of the season. Kirkham’s fighting spirit earned them a bonus point which, given the close scores of most of the games, was the least they deserved. Tony Hayward was the match’s best player as he won all his 8 games for Lids. Dave Mackay and Liam Rigby won 4 games each for Kirkham.
Two unbeaten sides met this week and it was Lightning A who kept their 100% start to the season as they emphatically beat Bloomfield A 15-1. Lightning swept into a 12-0 lead before Bloomfield managed to win their only game on setting. Lightning also won 2 of their games on settings whilst there were several other close games. The Bunting brothers Nathan and James won all 8 games whilst Jordan Taylor-Millington and Eddie Choudhury won Bloomfield’s solitary game.
