WEEK 21 REPORT W/E 8TH APRIL

08/04/2022

Division 2
Hesketh Fleetwood B rounded off an impressive season with a decisive win over their nearest rivals Stanley A. HF lost only 2 mens and 2 mixed as they romped home 20-4!
Katie Kinder, Nicky Percy and Ant Cross all won 8 games whilst all Stanley’s wins involved Lee Meakin. Stanley completed their best ever season but finished some distance behind the division champions. HF finish with a 100% record with an average of over 21 games per match as they make a quick return to division 1.

Lids continued their recent good results by defeating Kirkham Charter B 14-10 in an entertaining and close match. They were actually behind after the levels as they only won 2 ladies and 3 mens. The mixed, however was a completely different story as they took 9 games. Will Booth won 7 for Lids and was POTM. 4 players won 4 games for Kirkham with Anita Driscoll having the best points difference. For in form Lids this was their 4th successive win with all these victories coming in the final 4 matches - results which eventually moved them well clear of the bottom team!

Project 12 finish comfortably in 3rd after a consistent season. They won 17 games including 2 ladies, 6 mens and 9 mixed. Kirkham Charter A won 7 but just miss out on a bonus point. Paul Whitehouse won all his 8 games to be best player on the night but spare a thought for Kirkham’s Amelia Parker who won all her sides 7 games but still finished on the losing team!

Levels
Bloomfield’s basement battle with bottom club Stanley ended in a narrow win for the home team. The first 2 sets went to either team before Bloomfield forged ahead by winning the next 6 games to go 8-2 up. Stanley replied by winning the next 4 games to reduce the deficit to 8-6. In the final set Bloomfield’s top pair defeated Stanley’s top pair for a final score of 10-6. Eddie Choudhury won all his 8 games whilst Stanley’s best players were Jake Meakin and Aaron Cheung who both won 4. Bloomfield finish the season one place above Stanley, who win the wooden spoon.

Last league match of the season was played on Thursday and was a close affair as Hesketh Fleetwood B entertained Lightning with second place up for grabs. HF stormed into an early 5-1 lead but Lightning struck back winning 6 of the next 8 games to tie the match at 7-7. In the final set Hesketh comfortably won both games to claim 3 vital points which saw them leapfrog Lightning and end as runners up. Although Lightning earned a bonus point they just miss out on second by 1 point. Lee Williams won 5 for Lightning but Phill Fyles was easily the best player in the match as he won all his 8 games.
