Division 1
Monday night saw a first win for Lightning B against relegation rivals Kingfisher B. In the reverse fixture, earlier in the season, Lightning conceded 6 games due to injury in their 13-11 defeat. This time it was Kingfisher's turn to concede due to a missing player and so forfeited 8 games. Tim Chetwood won 5 from 8 games for Kingfisher but the POTM was Rob Cockerill who played well and won 5 from 6 games. The 3 points gives Lightning a slight chance of avoiding the wooden spoon.
Division 2
Lids were another team without a win until Monday's victory over Kirkham Charter B. This was an unexpected win, especially as they trailed 7-5 after the levels. The score went even worse in the mixed as they found themselves 10-6 down. The comeback began in the next 2 sets as Wan Desmond and Mark Green took all 4 games to pull the score back to 10 all. A split in the penultimate set left the match in the balance at 11 all. In the final set Helena Lempur and James Norman of Lids kept their nerve to win both games and the match! Kirkham's Anita Driscoll won 6 but Mark won 8 games to be POTM in a great performance! Lids now fighting with Stanley B to avoid bottom place with the sides meeting next week in a showdown !
Hesketh Fleetwood B return to Division 1 and finish the season as champions as they demolished struggling Stanley B 22-2 to maintain their 100% record. They lost only 1 ladies and 1 mixed to win easily. Kathy Howard played in both Stanley's wins but the joint players of the match with 8 wins each were Percy, Percy and Percival !!
2nd placed Stanley A drew 12-12 against 3rd placed Project 12 in an exciting game which went to the wire. Stanley's 5 wins in the mens helped them to a slender 7-5 lead after the levels. Project always pick up in the mixed and this was no exception as they took the first to sets to lead 9-7. Stanley then replied with 2 set wins of their own to regain their 2 game advantage at 11-9. Project's Kat Platt and Jon Jackson won the crucial penultimate set to level the match at 11 all. In the final set, Stanley's Mia Meakin and Reehan Khan won the first game 24-22 but then Sarah Coultas and John Wright easily took the final game to earn a draw for Project! Reehan, Kat and Sarah were the best players on the night with 6 wins each.
Levels
Despite taking an early 2-0 lead, Lids were then outplayed by league leaders Hesketh Fleetwood A who recorded their 8th consecutive win. Will Booth won 4 for Lids but Minoj Mandahar had a great performance as he won all 8 games.
Hesketh Fleetwood B moved into 2nd place after beating Bloomfield 11-5 in a tight match which had 4 settings, 3 of which went to HF. After splitting the first 2 sets, HF won the next 6 to lead 8-2, before Bloomfield closed the gap by winning 3 of the next 4 to earn themselves a bonus point. Eddie Choudhury won 4 games for Bloomfield. The POTM was Minoj Mandahar who won another 8 games to take his total to 16 wins in 2 matches !!
