Division 1
Monday night saw Kingfisher B host Pilling in a match where both teams were looking for their first points of the season. Kingfisher's ladies won 4 but Pilling's men proved too strong as they took all 6. Each side then won 2 sets from the next 4 to put Pilling on the verge of a win but also meant Kingfisher had earned a vital bonus point. Pilling won 3 of the last 4 games for a 15-9 win and 3 points. The returning Andy Davis was the difference and statistically he was POTM with his 7 wins for Pilling but Rebecca Dewhurst had the best performance on the night for winning 3 ladies and 3 mixed for the losing team.
The match between Hesketh Fleetwood A and Lightning A was one of those matches where the final score of 20-4 really does not tell the full story. Although HF thoroughly deserved to win, the match score could have been so different. HF won 5 of the 6 games that went to setting and also 6 of the 8 games which were close to being set. Oliver Hives and Lee Williams won 2 for the luckless Lightning whilst Elizabeth Andrew was the only player on the night to win all 8.
Division 2
Kirkham Charter A suffered their 3rd successive defeat as they were routed 22-2 at the hands of Hesketh Fleetwood B who celebrated their 4th consecutive 22-2 win! Ian Cartmell won 2 games for Kirkham whilst usual contenders Katie Kinder and Nicky Percy easily won their 8 games.
Another team with 4 wins out 4 are Stanley A who maintained their 100% record by beating Kirkham Charter B 18-6. Despite losing the ladies 4-2 Stanley forged ahead with a 6-0 win in the mens followed by 8-4 in the mixed. Despite being on the losing side, Emma Nickson was involved in 5 of Kirkham's 6 wins. Dynamic duo Lee Meakin and Steve Canavan won all their 8 games.
Project 12 also kept their 100% record in tact with a tricky 14-10 away win against a determined Hesketh Fleetwood C. Project owed much of their success to their mixed as they trailed 7-5 after the levels, despite the men winning 4. They won the first set of the mixed and split the second to leave the score at 8-8. However, they forged ahead in set 9 and never looked back. Jon Jackson and Paul Whitehouse both won 3 mens and 3 mixed. Linda Adams and Lindsay Newton had a good night, despite being on the losing team, as they won 5.
Levels
A comfortable 13-3 win for a strong Lids side against Stanley means they move into 2nd spot. After 3 sets Lids had nudged ahead 4-2 but they then won the next 4 sets to lead 12-2 before ending on a split set. Mark Green was the POTM as he won all his 8 games. James Turton, Marshall Collins and Ross Adams from Stanley all won 2 games.
