Division 1
Last season's runners up Poulton started their campaign with an emphatic 20-4 home win against a Lightning A side which wasn't at full strength. Despite some close games the match was virtually decided after the levels, where only 1 mens went Lightning's way. Poulton also dominated the mixed which they won 9-3. Usual suspects Michelle Skinner and Nick Hodgson won 8 whilst Kelly Anderson also won 8. Oliver Hives, Lee Williams and Jenny Stothard won 2 each for Lightning.
Kingfisher A scored their second big win of the season with a 23-1 win at Lightning B.
Only a Karen Pye & Nathan Bunting mixed win prevented the bagel. Alex Mackie and Linda Franks had the best points score. Kingfisher go top with maximum points.
Division 2
A very close match was fought out on Wednesday when Stanley B hosted Kirkham Charter A who were unbeaten in their opening 2 matches. Stanley took a healthy 8-4 lead into the mixed thanks to their ladies who won 5. Kirkham struck back in the first mixed set followed by 2 split sets to reduce the deficit to 10-8. Stanley won set 10 and Kirkham won set 11 to leave the home team still ahead 12-10. The final set was split with both scores 21-15 to give Stanley B the narrowest of victories and their first points of the season. Clare Doherty was Stanley's star player with 6 which was matched by Ian Cartmell for Kirkham.
Project 12 continued their winning start by comfortably overcoming Lids. Their men won 5 to give themselves an 8-4 lead after the levels. The mixed however, was decisive, and finished 11-1 in their favour. John Wright was the only player to win all their 8 games whilst Wan Desmond and Helena Lempur won 3 for Lids. Early in the season but Project could challenge for promotion!
Another team that could challenge for the top is Stanley A who won by an impressive 17-7 against Hesketh Fleetwood C. A 9-3 lead after the levels was sustained by an 8-4 margin in the mixed. Only Derek Hill and Lindsay Newton managed to win half their games as HF miss out on a bonus point. Another Meakin was the star player this week as Mia played well to win all her ladies and 3 mixed games.
Levels Division
Hesketh Fleetwood A had a tricky away match to Lightning but came away with an 11-5 win. At the half way stage HF led 6-2 which was then reduced to 6-4 after Lightning won the 5th set. HF then consolidated their lead by winning 5 of the final 6 games. Ant Cross was the POTM for winning 7 whilst Graham Cooper won 5 for Lightning.
A good week in the levels for Hesketh Fleetwood as their B team demolished Bloomfield 15-1. Only a split game in set 5 from Phil Hough and Eddie Choudhury prevented the whitewash. Phil Fyles and Minoj Mandanhar shared the best player performance as they both won 7.
