WEEK 1 REPORT W/E 5TH NOVEMBER

05/11/2021

Division 1
Reigning champions Fleetwood A (now Hesketh Fleetwood A) got their title defence off to a great start when they demolished Pilling 23-1. A mens victory by 23-21 from Mike Aspden and Tim Shipway was Pilling's only consolation. Statistically, Caroline Andrew was the best player on the night.

Two other clubs that also changed it's name are Albany and Warton who have now become Lightning. Thursday night saw Lightning A beat their B team 23-1 with only an Amit Mistry and Nathan Bunting mens preventing the whitewash. Captain Jenny just managed to secure POTM as she finished 1 point better than Natalie Appleyard!

Division 2
Kirkham Charter A made a solid start to their campaign by beating Lids 15-9. Kirkham's ladies won 4 games to give them a slender lead 7-5. KC then won 7 of the next 8 games to win the match. Lids continued to fight for a point which they managed when they took 3 of the last 4 games. Amelia Anderson was the star performer as she won 7 for KC whilst Mark Green played well to win 4.

Stanley A comfortably beat their B team 18-6 thanks to their men who won all 6 games.
The A continued their good form by winning the next 2 mixed sets to lead 13-3. A spirited fight back by the B meant the next 3 sets were all split to give a respectable match score. All 3 A team men won 7 but Steve Canavan easily had the best points difference. A successful night for Kathy Howard who was involved in winning 5 of the B's 6 games!

Contrasting results in the levels meant the match between Project 12 and Kirkham Charter B was close at the half way stage. Kirkham's ladies won 5 whilst Project's men took all 6. A steady performance from Project in the mixed secured the 3 points but Kirkham fought hard to win 8 games and head home with a point. Jon Jackson with all 8 was the star player whilst Carol Howarth won all her ladies and 1 mixed to end with 5 games for Kirkham.

Levels
Lightning held a narrow 5-3 at the half way stage but 3 wins from the next 4 left them in a winning position. Bloomfield fought hard in the last 2 sets which were split to earn them an important point. Andy Heaton was the best player with 7 wins for Lightning whilst Eddie Choudhury played well and won 5 despite being on the losing team.
