Week 9 Report W/E 8th November

08/11/2019

This week the 4 Meakin siblings won 27/32 games and had 3 POTM !!
Surely a record ???

Division 1
The only match this week saw Kingfisher A and Albany A produce a game which fluctuated from one side to the next and was only decided in the very last game! Albany went into the levels 7-5 up thanks to their ladies who won 5. In the next 4 sets both teams won 4 games to leave Albany still in front at 11-9. However, Kingfisher took the next set and then won the first game in the final set to go ahead for the first time in the match at 12-11! Albany pairing of Jenny Stothard and Rob Oakes then won the final game to ensure a draw! Adrian Greenwood and Luke Bennett of Kingfisher won 6 but Albany's Sian Meakin was POTM with 7. Temporarily, Kingfisher move to the top and Albany move up to third.

Division 2
Project 12 kept in touch with the top after an emphatic 20-4 win against struggling Hesketh B. The ladies from Hesketh provided tough opposition and managed to win 3 games but Project's men won 5 and were 8-4 after the levels. Project's experience and youth proved too strong in the mixed which they won 12 0! Hesketh's Alison Woodall won 3 games whilst Paul Whitehouse was the only player in the match to win all 8!

Albany B proved too strong for visiting team Kirkham Charter A when they ran out 19-5 winners. The home side were 8-4 up after the levels, with one ladies going to 28-26, and then won the mixed 11-1. Serena Hindle and Rob Cockerill were the star players with 7 and Emma Gilfoyle won 3 for Kirkham. Albany move to mid table whilst Kirkham remain at the foot of the table.

Another disaster for Lids A, this time at Fleetwood B, where they lost 22-2. Only a ladies and a mixed prevented a whitewash as Fleetwood recorded another win to maintain their push for promotion. Sue McAusland, Ant Cross and newcomer Kris Gulati all won 8 with Ant easily having the best points differential for POTM. Fleetwood jump into second place whilst Lids hover just above the relegation zone.

Division 3
Stanley B easily won their match 22-2 against fellow strugglers Ribby Hall B who only managed a ladies and a mixed. Jake Meakin and Colin Davison won 8 and Melanie Jones was involved in both Ribby's wins.

The mid table clash between Lids B and visitors Kingfisher C ended in an emphatic 19-5 win for the home team who conceded 1 ladies 2 mens and 2 mixed. Pauline Weafer, Ceri Smith-Jaynes and George Green won 7 games each and, despite the heavy defeat, Harry Heywood won a creditable 2 men's and 2 mixed. Kingfisher remain mid table but Lids, jump into the promotion places!

The battle of the top 2 teams ended with a Stanley A victory against arch rivals Ribby Hall A by 15-9 which helped to maintain their 100% start. Ribby won 4 ladies but Stanley dominated the men's 6-0 and just came out on top in the mixed 7-5. Some close games as expected, with 3 of them going into setting including a 27-25 win for Ribby. Once again Lee Meakin was POTM for his 8 games whilst younger sister Maya won 4! Credit also to Anita Driscoll of Ribby who only lost 1 game which was on a setting! Her 7 wins ensured that Ribby win a vital bonus point.

Levels
Congratulations to new team Bloomfield who won their first ever match! They won the first 6 games to put themselves on the victory path and although Warton C fought hard the initial gap was too much to close. Final score 12-4. Phil Hough won 8 for his team and Kyle Copeland and Gregor Creelman played well to win 3 games each for Warton.

Warton B proved to be no match for Project 12 who won 14-2. Jon Jackson the only player to win 8 whilst Stephan Martinovsky was involved in both Warton's won games.
Warton remain mid table but Project move into 3rd but some way behind the leaders.
