Week 18 Report W/E 1st February

Division 1
Poulton won a tense encounter against rivals Albany A in a close match that had 3 settings which were all won by Poulton! Their ladies won 5-1 which was almost matched by Albany's men who won 4-2 and the mixed ended all square for a final score of 13-11. Poulton now climb up to second. Star of the match was Nikki Wilford who won 7 for the winners whilst Lee Williams won 6 for the unlucky losers.

Lids A beat Albany B by a comfortable score of 20-4. Despite losing all the ladies and mens levels Albany continued to fight hard and were rewarded by winning 4 mixed - 3 by Fran Hellier and Amit Mistry. For the winners both Jenny Tsang and James Leigh won all their 8 games.

League leaders and current champions Fleetwood A did a demolition job on Pilling A winning by the impressive margin of 21-3. Elizabeth Andrew and Andy Wiseman won their 4 levels games and then paired up to win all their mixed. Andy Davis and Elaine Danson split both their mixed and Andy also split a mens to win 3 games on the night.

Division 2
Fleetwood B produced a great comeback in their away match against an in form Pilling B with both teams at opposite ends of the table and needing the points. With Pilling ladies winning all 6 and Fleetwood men winning 5 it was all set up for a showdown in the mixed! Pilling won the first set and the next 2 sets were split to surely give the home team a winning 11-7 lead. However Fleetwood fought for every point and won 3 of the next 4 games to be only 12-10 down. Linda Adams and Nick Metcalfe then won both games for Fleetwood and a draw was secured! The 2 points for both teams mean Pilling continue their unbeaten run and remain favourites for 2nd place whilst Fleetwood continue to fight to avoid relegation.

Kingfisher B boosted their chances of promotion by winning at Stanley A by an impressive 22-2. They only dropped 1 mens and 1 mixed with Lynne Williams and Reb Dewhurst both winning 8. Reehan Khan was involved in Stanley's 2 wins as he split a mens and a mixed. Kingfisher level on points with Pilling but with a harder run in. Stanley's heavy defeat means they are now only 2 points ahead of the drop zone with 3 tough fixtures remaining.

Project 12 beat bottom team Lids C 22-2 to ease themselves away from relegation. Only Pauline Weafer and Dave Whiteside managed to win a mixed set for Lids. 4 players won 8 for Project - Kat Platt,Nicky Carr,Jon Jackson and Paul Whitehouse.

Top team Hesketh A were coasting to victory in their home match against promotion outsiders Lids B. They won the ladies 5-1 and with the mens split at 3-3 they led 8-4 going into the mixed. When they won the 1st mixed set and split the 2nd to be 11-5 up victory was in sight ...surely? However Lids showed great fighting spirit and won the next 6 games including 4 games from Steph Tsang and Dan Cooper to tie the match at 11-11. In the last set Helen Miller and Simon Tebbutt won the 1st game 21-16 to put Lids in front for the first time but Hesketh's Nicky Johnson and Steve Blackburn held their nerve to win the last game 22-20 for a memorable draw ! 2 points to both teams. Sheena Carberry won 6 for Hesketh but was Dan POTM with 7 games. Hesketh have some tricky fixtures left but needing only 6 points from 9 for the title. Lids likely to just miss out on promotion.

Levels
A great team effort from Warton B gave them an 11-5 victory over Stanley and helped to move them off the bottom. Warton Juniors provided 50% of the Warton B team with Stephan Martinovsky and Scott Leadbetter (making his league debut) providing the youth helped by Warton Seniors Mike Cooper and Kevin Youles who provided the experience! Lee Meakin won 4 for Stanley
