Division 1
Despite some close scores, especially in the men's doubles,Fleetwood A consolidated their top spot with a 19-5 win away to Pilling A. Elaine Danson and Andy Davis with 3 were again Pilling's best performers whilst Fleetwood had Cath Bagley, Emily Broadbent and James Lester winning 7.
Albany B remain rooted at the bottom after a heavy defeat at the hands of Lids A by 23-1. Only a Paul Cross & Steve Tivey men's doubles troubled the scorecard. 4 players for Lids won 8 but it was Hannah Parr who conceded the fewest points!
Undefeated Albany A lost their 100% start as they lost 14-10 at Poulton Le Fylde A making the fight (for runners up spot ) even more fascinating. There were many close games which included 4 settings. PLF however capitalised on the fact that an Albany lady was unwell for the entire match but they kept their concentration to move up the table to second place. Nikki Wilford won 7 for Poulton and Rob Oakes won 6 for Albany.
Division 2
Another fantastic night of badminton as Lids B took on division leaders Hesketh A! There were so many crucial games with 5 of them (a league record so far!) decided on settings - Hesketh winning 4 of them. Overall far too much excitement for 'Chief Scribe', Carol Booth to take in! Hesketh ladies won 5-1 whilst the boys from Lids won 4-2. With Hesketh leading 7-5 it was vital that Lids won the first mixed set which they did through Steph T'sang and Dan Cooper to tie the match 7 all ! However the league leaders showed their experience by winning the next 6 games to get over the finishing line. Although Lids won 3 of the last 4 games Hesketh triumphed 14-10 and remain the team to beat! Sheena Carberry and Jill McMillan both won 7 for the victors. (Lin) Dan not only won 5 for the losers but also found time to send this enthusiastic report - Thanks!
Fleetwood B v Pilling B ended 5-19 to move Pilling (after a slow start to the season) up to 3rd and push Fleetwood nearer to the bottom. Ant Cross was playing his 4th match of the week and it was only Thursday!! In recognition of this I am calling it the “Effort of the Season” - unless someone can better it ! Elizabeth Harrison and Tim Shipway won all 8 games for Pilling whilst the best player for Fleetwood was - you guessed it - SupermAnt who won 4 games!
Division 3
Kingfisher C conceded their home match to Ribby Hall B.
Ribby Hall A moved into 2nd spot after a 16-8 win over Stanley B. Some close games with 4 settings emphasising this was a tough match in which Stanley won the last 2 games through Irene Radcliffe and Steve Wyatt to clinch a bonus point. Anita Driscoll and Emma Nickson with 7 for the home team - Steve won 6 for Stanley.
Levels
Game of the Week matched 2 unbeaten teams Project 12 and Warton A who met at Preesall for a top of the table clash. Unsurprisingly 4 of the 16 games went to setting with each team winning 2. It was Project 12 who started better winning 5 of the first 6 games to put themselves in a strong position. Although Warton rallied at the end and managed to close the gap it was never quite enough and Project 12 ran out winners 9-7. Jon Jackson won 6 for the home team and Jeremy Cara replied with 5 for Warton.
